The importance of the Training Workshop

• This was the correct time to have training on the
  Management processes of the census
• Many new and useful things learned, which still
  can be well implemented in the planning process
  of the 2010 round of censuses
• Will help Turkmenistan in the organizational
  work, even though nobody attended from the NSO
• Will hopefully help Uzbekistan to finally make a
  positive decision on having a census in the 2010
  round

• Mapping issues
• Monitoring of field operations
• Methods of quality assurance of field operations
• The difference between quality control and
  quality assurance

• The importance of quality issues and measurement
  of them
• The importance of testing in finding out best
  practices
• The importance of evaluation, including the Post
  enumeration survey
• The importance of the selection and training of
  staff in the census process

Organisational issues of the Workshop

• The size of the workshop (7 countries, less than
  30 participants) was good
• Small enough to have all countries to participate
  actively
• Big enough to have good interaction
• The time used on group work was giving and
  inspiring
• Coming closer to practical issues in the
  countries
• Understanding the complexity and role of planning
• Promotion of regional interaction and learning to
  know each other and learning from each other

Technical issues of the Workshop

• The meeting facilities were good
• including the weather
• The level of interpretation was good
• If slides would have been available in advance IN
  RUSSIAN it would have made the learning process
  more efficient
• Available through the internet before the
  workshop
• or at least distributed before the presentations
  in the workshop

Materials distributed

• The CES Recommendations for the 2010 Censuses on
  Population and Housing
• The collected experience from the 2000 round
  should be made available in the Russian language
• All distributed materials are very useful in the
  future work
• All materials of the Workshop will be available
  on the UNECE web site
