Five Foundations of Success
  • Start planning early and use time effectively
  • Believe in your presentationif you dont no one
    else will
  • Create realistic expectations and limitations for
    yourself
  • Always offer something new to your audience
  • Practice, practice, practice

3
Knowing who your audience is
  • What are the demographics of your audience?
  • What values, beliefs, or attitudes will your
    audience have?
  • What is the appropriate language level?
  • What does the audience want or need to know?
  • Will your audience think you are an expert?
  • Whats the occasion?
  • Time of day?

4
What is the purpose of your speech?
  • Informative
  • Persuasive
  • Entertaining or evocative

5
Know your limitations
  • Be sure to meet the time requirement. Practice
to be sure you will not go over. Going over the
time limit can cause difficulties. You want to
stay within five to seven minutes! More than
that you will begin to lose your audience!

6
CONTENT ORGANIZATION
  • One theme should dominate your presentation
  • Make no more than five main points (one main
    point a minute)
  • Present only what the audience needs to know

7
Presenting Content
  • Episodes- present your ideas in chunks, like news
stories or music videos. Use each chunk to
highlight a specific point and move on
  • Transitions- make powerful and seamless
transitions with strong leading words that will
re-engage your audience for each new point

8
Ways to support your content
  • Facts, figures, and statistics
  • Authorative sources
  • Quotations
  • Narratives
  • Definitions
  • Humor
  • Current events
  • Humanize the information
  • A short brainstorm
