Styles of Henry Moore
  • Henry Moore sculpted primarily abstract, organic
    designs.
  • A popular theme of his was the reclining figure,
    which he often sculpted on both small and large
    scale commissions.
  • He sculpted dozens of human figures, in both
    single and group or family layouts.

  • 1898 Born in Castleford, Yorkshire
  • 1915 Becomes a student teacher at the
    request of his father despite his ambition
    to be a sculptor
  • 1917 Enlists in the Army and is sent to
    France
  • 1919 Returns to his old teaching post
  • 1922 Begins to do outdoor sculptures
  • 1922 Makes his first direct wood and
    stone carvings

    rectilinear abstract forms, which are his
    first multiple- peace compositions

  • Won a scholarship in sculpture to the Royal
    College of Art in 1921.
  • Studied at Leeds School of Art for two years.
  • Won a scholarship from his elementary school to
    Castleford Grammar School.
  • Awarded a scholarship to the Royal College of
    Art.

Awards Won By Moore
  • Was awarded the Order of Merit in 1963.
  • Won the International Sculpture Prize at the 24th
    Venice Biennale in 1948.
  • He also won countless minor international awards
    throughout his lifetime.

    world.

Upon his death, the majority of Moores fortune
went to his foundation.
