Persistent Links
26
Internet Links Not Always a Good Idea
  • Dynamic (session-specific)
  • Authentication (paid content)
  • Link lifespan (dead links)
  • Content quality

27
You Can Link to High-Quality Online Content
  • Full-text articles citations from newspapers,
    magazines, or journals
  • Periodical titles
  • Full-text books
  • Canned searches
  • Databases and Library Catalogue Records Direct

(books, magazines / journals, DVDs, Videos, CDs)

A canned search is a functional link that
launches a pre-defined search which is executed
fresh each time its clicked
28
Not Sure What to Do?
  • A few ideas
  • Create a course reading list
  • Assign weekly readings
  • Offer additional readings based on topics
  • Provide up-to-date search results on a topic

A canned search is a functional link that
launches a pre-defined search which is executed
fresh each time its clicked
29
What is a Persistent Link?
  • From TechEncyclopedia
  • A predefined connection between programs so that
when information in one database or file is
changed, related information in other databases
    and files is also updated.

What is Remote Access?

information from a location off-site from where
the information is physically located or more

    sources from outside Seneca College.
  • Access to many of the electronic resources
provided by the Seneca Learning Commons is bound
by strict licensing agreements. The Seneca

electronic resources are made available only to
Seneca College students, staff, faculty, and to
those located on site at a Seneca College campus.
