50Gulf of Aden proposed Bridge Card
Position, Course Speed Reporting After
transmitting the initial report to UKMTO Dubai,
MARLO and MSCHOA (as applicable) vessels are
encouraged to report their noon position, course,
speed, estimated and actual arrival times to
UKMTO Dubai and MARLO whilst operating in the
region. Vessels are also encouraged to increase
the frequency of position/course/speed reporting
when navigating in known high risk/piracy areas
and report upon passing Point A Point B in the
Gulf of Aden. Gulf of Aden Group Transit (GOA
GT) Vessels are encouraged to conduct their
passage through the IRTC in groups based on
planned transit speeds (SOG). GOA GTs are
designed to ensure vessels benefit from avoiding
high profile piracy areas at the most dangerous
times whilst allowing maximum coordination of
military assets in the region and ensuring
vessels benefit from enhanced mutual protection.
During a GOA GT vessels should not expect to be
permanently in company with a warship but as all
warships within the region are coordinating their
efforts, each military asset will be aware of the
GT and have full details of registered
shipping. Vessels are strongly advised not to
wait at Points A or B for contact with a warship
or other vessels, but should pass Point A or B at
the correct time and speed for their registered
Group Transit. Timings and further guidance
regarding GOA GTs can be obtained from
www.mschoa.eu or postmaster_at_mschoa.org
What To Do When Under Attack References with
regard to Alerting and Reporting UKMTO and
MSCHOA...... xxxxxx Voluntary Reporting
Requirements Merchant vessel voluntary reporting
schemes are established to increase security,
provide anti-piracy support and to maintain the
freedom of navigation to all vessels in the
Indian Ocean, Arabian Gulf, Gulf of Aden and the
Red Sea. The schemes invite vessels of any flag
or ownership to report and all information is
treated in strict commercial confidence and only
used within military circles. Merchant vessels
operating in these areas are strongly encouraged
to liaise as detailed below with the authorities
as any vessel or owner/operator/manager which
chooses not to report may delay any military
assistance in the event of an incident. Initial
Reports Upon entering the detailed reporting
area, or leaving a port within the region, the
recommended Voluntary Reporting Requirements are
as follows1. Initial report to UKMTO Dubai if
planning to transiting the Gulf of Aden, or
navigate within the area bound by 12N, 58E
10S3. Owners should register vessel movement
with MSCHOA (online, email or fax)
