Racing Against Winters Approach

• October 1-December 20,1804
• Lewis and Clark were keen to cover as many miles
  as possible before the Missouri froze.
• Four days before the freezing cold snow fall we
  reached the Mandan Tribes villages.

• We planned to stay with the Mandan villages
  through the winter.
• Personally I wasnt to excited about that.
• The temperatures were harsh, they went below zero
  degrees Fahrenheit and guards that stood around
  the clock had to be relieved every half hour.
• My shift was the worst.

• The food supplies started to go down.
• To make it through the winter the captains had to
  find a supply of meat for the men.
