• Recombination Frequency - the frequency of having
  offspring with a genotype different from either
  parent
• It can be calculated by dividing the number of
  recombinant offspring by the total number of
  offspring
• Ex Crossing homozygous individuals for the gene
  A (AA x aa) leads to all offspring having
  different genotypes than the parent generation
• Recombination frequency 1.0 (100)

• Recombination frequency can apply to genes
  located on different chromosomes, as well as
  genes that happen to be on the same chromosome.
• Chromosomes themselves are not unbreakable, which
  allows for the recombination of genes to occur on
  the same chromosome
• During Prophase I of Meiosis - genes can
  recombine when two homologous chromosomes
  physically exchange corresponding segments
  (Crossing Over)
