  • Subjects and Predicates

Complete Subject
  • The subject is the part of the sentence that
    defines who or what the sentence is about.
  • Subject are nouns or pronouns.
  • (This includes phrases or clauses acting as
    nouns)
  • Ex. The shockingly malnourished lion silently
    stalked its prey.
  • The complete subject consists of the simple
    subject and anything supporting the simple
    subject.

Examples
  • The dark haired boy, named Johnny, slept through
    class
  • The boys in Mr. Carlos class made gifts for all
    the girls.
  • The little train that could finally breached the
    summit.

The Complete Predicate
  • The complete predicate consists of the verb and
    anything after the verb.
  • The complete predicate also includes any adverb
    directly preceding the verb.
