Title: Diapositive 1
1JERICO Joint European Research Infrastructure
network for Coastal operational Observatories A
proposed EC-project in response to the call
CAPACITY Research Infrastructures
INFRA-2010-1.1.20 Research infrastructure for
coastal research including for Integrated Coastal
Zone Management and Planning
Including Networking Activities, Trans-National
Access and/or Service Activities and Joint
Research Activities
Contributions from Patrick Farcy, Yann Hervé De
Roeck and Ramiro Gonzales
2JERICO main focus (1/2)
1- To set up a European Research Infrastructure
for coastal observation as needed in research and
Operational Oceanography activities in the
framework of GMES (Marine Core Service MyOcean
and downstream Coastal Services...) 2- To
define the criteria for a Label JERICO (set of
parameters, frequency, sampling scheme, data
quality, data delivery) 3- To sustain networks
which are in compliance with Label criteria to
secure long term series of data. 4- To assist
networks which do not meet the Label requirements
to perform the improvements that will bring them
at the requested level. 5- To provide
opportunities to access to plate-forms for
testing/demonstrating experiments and data for
assimilation experiments 6- To provide
opportunities for research activities oriented
towards the improvement of observing systems and
their operations.
3JERICO main focus (2/2)
7- Better use of R/V, fishing boats ships of
opportunity 6- Consider the land/marine link,
towards a better access to river flows and fluxes
(link with water catchment models
activities). 7- Develop a partnership strategy
to operate the pool of Gliders in Europe
(technical expertise for both vehicle and
sensors, operational strategy). 8- Equal
consideration should be given to scientific,
governmental (policy and directive driven) and
commercial priorities to determine the broad base
of user requirements for monitoring. 10- Enhance
cooperation between institutes in sharing
observing systems deployment and operations.
4JERICO criteria to be fulfilled by the measuring
stations
1 - Automatic and continuous measurements on
annual or seasonnal basis 2 - In situ data (no
remote sensing except HF radar) 3 - Real time or
quasi real time for data delivery (maximum delay
1 day to 1 month) 4 - Data Quality Control
minimum QC performed by operators 5 -
Parameters Mandatory (not all) T, S, Chl-a,
Turb, DO, pCO2 Optional Nutrients nitrates,
silicates, phosphates, ammonium 6 -
Sampling Mandatory Surface (1 m) Optional
Water column and close to sea floor 7
Fundings European, national or regional fundings
