How To Become an European Citizen

• Every person holding a nationality of a Member
  country is a citizen of the European Union

Rights of the European Citizen

• Freedom of movement and the right to live in any
  of the Member States
• Right to diplomatic and consular protection
• Right to vote and stand as a candidate at
  elections to the European Parliament and at
  municipal elections in the Member State of
  residence
• Right of petition to the European Parliament
• Right to refer to the Ombudsman

Schengen Agreement

• An agreement among European states which allows
  for common policy on the temporary entry of
  persons and the harmonisation of external border
  controls
• The agreement was signed on June 14, 1985
• 26 countries including all European Union states
  have signed the agreement and 15 of them have
  implemented it so far
