Final Project
  • The final project will really be a sort of take
    home exam worth forty points. You will need to
    choose one phenomena of globalization and analyze
    it from the different perspectives on
    globalization we will be discussing. You can
    choose one of the topics I list below, or you can
    choose your own topic and okay it with me. Your
    paper must be of the following structure
  • 1-2 pages Introduction to the phenomena and
    statement of the issue.
  • 1-2 pages Homogenization
  • 1-2 pages Localization
  • 1-2 pages Heterogenization
  • 1 page Concluding remarks what do we learn about
    culture and globalization from your case?
  • 1-? pages Bibliography

  • Presentation of case 5pts
  • Discussion of homogenization 10pts
  • Discussion of localization 10pts
  • Discussion of heterogenization 10pts
  • Writing (expr./format/bib.) 5pts
  • Total 40pts

  • You must use 3 sources for each of
    homogenization, localization, and
    heterogenization.
  • They can be from any of the three books we used
    for class.
  • (Griswold treats localization, so does Darnell
    Hunt)

  • Define topic this weekend
  • Spend some time on internet to get familiar
  • Spend some time in library to get sources.
  • During class lectures from now on, take notes
    when concepts remind you of your topic.
  • This weekend start putting your notes together.
  • On Monday afternoon, add your notes on
    heterogenization write up an outline.
  • Tuesday June 6, listen to final lecture and be
    prepared to discuss paper topic.
  • Hand in by Friday, June 9, 5pm in mailbox in
    Baldwin 114.
