• Any temporary elevated platform (supported or
  suspended) and its supporting structure
  (including points of anchorage), used for
  supporting employees or materials or both during
  the erection, repair, or decoration of a
  building.

Horse Scaffolds

• Scaffolding made by supporting a work platform on
  top of saw horses
• Horse Scaffolding is a scaffold for light or
  medium duty work.
• Because of this, it is only typically used during
  ship construction and maintenance.
• New methods have reduced the use of horse
  scaffolds even during ship construction

• 1915.71(g)(2) Horses constructed of materials
  other than lumber shall provide the strength,
  rigidity and security required of horses
  constructed of lumber.

General Requirements

• Scaffolds can not be more than 10 feet or two
  tiers in height, whichever of the two is less.

• When horses are made up in tiers each horse must
  be placed directly over the other horse in the
  tier below.

• The legs of each horse must be nailed down or
  otherwise secured to prevent displacement and
  each tier must be crossbraced.

  scaffolding must always be kept in good repair
  and out of locations that might be insecure.

Typical Injuries

• Injuries due to horse scaffolding are mainly fall
  injuries.
• Not many are serious, however, since horse
  scaffolding can only be a maximum of 10 feet

  scaffolding or any data.
