  • When you must use all of the supporting details
    as clues to help you find the main idea.
  • An idea that covers all or most of the specific
    ideas in a paragraph.

Central Point
  • The central point is generally found in a passage
    more than one paragraph in length.
  • It can be considered a thesis or the overall main
    idea that the author is trying to portray in a
    longer passage.
  • Every paragraph in a longer selection supports
    the central point giving it strength and
    credibility.
