Course Content

• Using Focus on Physical Science by Prentice Hall
  (new textbooks this year)
• Following the 8th grade California Science
  content standards
• Students will be learning about topics such as
  atomic structure, periodic table, motion, and
  forces

Materials

• Science notebook
• Pens/Pencils/Paper
• Binder Reminder
• Calculator (will be using 2nd semester)
• Completed work to turn in on time
• Assignment Sheet (in notebook)
• File Folder (I have supplied)

Grading Policy

• Lab Work/Write-ups 10
• Homework 20
• Class work/Participation 30
• Tests/Quizzes 40
• Grading Scale
• 90-100 A
• 80-89 B
• 70-79 C
• 60-69 D
• 59 and below F

Homework

• I assign homework usually a couple times a week
• Homework is usually due on Tuesdays and Thursdays
• Students receive half credit for turning in
  homework late
• If student is absent, homework is due two days
  after absence
• Homework assignments should be written down in
  binder reminders and on assignment sheets.
• Also, assignments are posted daily on
  www.yourhomework.com

Make-up Work

• When absent, refer to Assignments notebook to
  collect assignments missed
• It is your students responsibility to find out
  and get they missed!
• Notebook will have an assignment sheet at the
  front followed by worksheets and notes in order
  of date given

Classroom Rules/Expectations

1. Be respectful Be respectful and polite to
   others.
2. Be ready You will be in your seat with the
   appropriate materials and be ready when the bell
   rings.
3. Be responsible You will have all of your
   supplies every day.

How to be Successful in Science

• To be successful students should
• arrive to class on time with appropriate
  materials and completed work/homework.
• keep an organized folder with notes, homework,
  in-class work, lab information, and review
  sheets.
• write down homework in their binder reminder.
• keep their assignment sheet up to date.
• prepare for tests and quizzes by using notes,
  warm-ups, homework, textbook, in-class work, and
  review sheets to study from.
• turn in neat and completed lab write-ups on time.
• be responsible in the lab.

Working Together as a Team

• Yes, it is important for students to follow the
  rules and do what it is expected to be successful
  in school. In order for students to be
  successful, it is also important that the
  student, teacher, and parent/guardian work
  together as a team. I encourage you to stay
  involved in your students education. I will do
  my part in making this year successful for your
  student. Please remind your student that I am
  here outside of class, too, to help. Never
  hesitate to ask.
