1Word Tables for Sequencing

2Step One
Have the student, create a word table with twenty
rows and three columns. In the first column the
student then writes ideas which come to mind for
the assignment. The student can write as much as
they would like because the Word Table will
expand to fit the text.
A 1
3Step Two
In column A the student puts letter B (for
beginning) M for middle and Z for end next to
each of the ideas in an attempt to organize the
structure of the paper. The student asks himself
or herself should this idea come at the beginning
of my essay, or the middle, or the end.
4Step Three
In the Table Menu select sort. Then sort the
whole table, according to column A and in so
doing all ideas will be grouped according to the
BltMltZ coding.
5Step Four
Then look at the whole of group B and ask,
which idea should come first and put the number 1
in the farthest right column. Then ask, which
should come second and so- on Then look at
group Z and complete process
A 1
6Step Five
Then highlight whole table and sort first
according to column A and then according to
column 1
A 1
In the Table Menu select sort.
The result of this last sort will put the ideas
in the sequence, which the student has chosen.
7Step Six
Then select the whole of the first column by
clicking and highlighting the items in that
column. Under the Edit Menu select copy.
8Step Seven
Under the File Menu open a new Word document.
Then under the Edit Menu select Paste.
This will paste the written contents of column
one into the new document in table format.
Select the table and then under the Table Menu
select Convert Table to Text.
9Step Eight
The end result should be the students text in
the proper sequence, which they have chosen. If
my example were a paper, it would look like
this. Idea which comes to mind fourth Idea one
which comes to mind first Idea which comes to
mind Seventh Idea which comes to mind third Idea
which comes to mind sixth Idea which comes to
mind second Idea which comes to mind Eighth Idea
which comes to mind fifth The student would
then have to go through some formatting, but they
would have their ideas written in the proper
sequence. If they take the time to use proper
punctuation while writing in the table it will be
included in their final paper.
