7Defining Leadership
- If you are a manager today, you can work towards
being a manager that leads, rather than just
manages. - Everyone, regardless of their level of leadership
should continuously seek improvements in this
area.
8Defining Leadership
- Leadership is always about character
- People want to follow people of character
- People want to follow people they can trust
- Character is who you are when you are in the
dark with no one around.

- If you wont follow you, who will?
10Knowledge of Self
11Knowledge of Self
- So how do you go about getting to know YOU?
12Knowledge of Self
- Clint Eastwood Style The Good, The Bad and the
Ugly - When it comes to building your relationships,
write out your qualities and put them in
categories - Good Things you do Well
- Bad Things you do poorly, but could improve
- Ugly Serious drawbacks in dealing with others
13Knowledge of Self
- Pick a few of your qualities that you think you
do well, and ask trusted friends, co-workers, etc
for their honest opinion of your skills in this
area - You may be surprised that others may see you as
stronger or weaker in these areas as you do.

- Of all the things a leader should fear,
complacency should top the list!
25Understanding and Motivating Others
26Understanding and Motivating Others
- Relationship Awareness is founded on four simple
yet profound premises - We all do what we do because we want to feel good
about ourselves. - We tend to take two different approaches to life
- When we feel that things are going well, and
- When we feel that we are faced with opposition or
conflict. - A "personal weakness" is no more or no less than
the overdoing or misapplying of a personal
strength. - We naturally tend to perceive the behaviors of
others through our own filter, our Motivational
Value System.
