Background
  • The National Network of Libraries of Medicine,
    Greater Midwest Region in conjunction with the
    Centers for Disease Control Information Center
    are the organizations co-funding this project
  • The project proposal responded to an RFP
    entitled Public Health Information Models
    Subcontracts

  • Iowa Center for Public Health Preparedness
  • 15 Health Departments across the state
  • Volunteers from across the state

IPHI Project Goals
  • Address information needs of Iowa public health
    professionals by creating an easy-to-use
    information resource that emphasizes local and
    state resources and provides links to NLM and CDC
    resources.
  • Provide training and support to public health
    professionals in using Iowa Public Health
    Information, NLM and CDC resources.

How the goals will be addressed
  • Hold focus group(s) at the Iowa Public Health
    Association Meeting, March 2003 to determine
    needs (done)
  • Establish an Advisory Committee to provide
    information and feedback to the project leaders
    (done)
  • Design an easy to use website that focuses on
    state and local resources and links to NLM and
    CDC (in process)
  • Launch website at the August 2003 Barnraising
    Conference (we have plans to present!)

How goals will be addressed (cont.)
  • Provide training to 15 health departments across
    the state (plans for fall and winter)
  • Provide further training and follow-up at the
    2004 Iowa Public Health Association Meeting
  • Maintenance of the website will continue as a
    public service of the Hardin Library for the
    Health Sciences, University of Iowa

Focus Group
  • A focus group was held with 15 public health
    professionals on March 25, 2003
  • A second focus group will be held at the IDPH in
    July.
