• Fruit and Vegetable Story

• Perry Central School Corporation is nestled in
  the hills of the Hoosier National Forest.
• It is the geographical and social center of rural
  Perry County.
• We have pre-k through grade 12 under one roof.
• There are 630 students in grades pre-k 6 and
  573 in grades 7 12.

• Inactivity, poor nutritional habits and obesity
  are a major concern of citizens across the state
  and nation.
• These concerns are further compounded by our
  countryside locale by restricted resources and
  isolation.

Goals

• Our goals are to create a healthier environment
  by providing healthier food choices.
• Expand the variety of fruits and vegetables our
  students experience.
• Increase students fruit and vegetable
  consumption.
• Make a difference in students diets.

• We continue to offer confidential counseling with
  a registered dietitian, who meets with families
  on a one-to-one basis.

• On snack days, our smart cart helps to deliver
  healthy snacks to the elementary classrooms.

• Fruit and Vegetables are offered daily to the
  students in the after school Lights-on program.

• Mrs. Bordens class plays a game of fruit and
  vegetable Bingo.
• They then enjoy the rewards.

• Mrs. Kelly has fruit on the elementary office
  desk for all to enjoy.
• She also answers questions about it or can
  direct the questioner to Mr. Wagner.

Freaky Fridays

• During the month of October, we have Freaky
  Fridays.

• Different fruits are tried each Friday during
  lunches.

Freaky Fridays

• Each fruit is advertised as something freaky,
  such as Draculas Fruit for pomegranates.

Freaky Fridays

• The students are then polled on if they like that
  fruit.
• If the majority says yes, it is then incorporated
  into our fruit mixture.
