Words of Suffering

• (John 1928-29) After this, Jesus knowing that
  all things were now accomplished, that the
  scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
  Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar and
  they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it
  upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.
• (Ps 2215) My strength is dried up like a
  potsherd and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws and
  thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

• (John 1928-29) After this, Jesus knowing that
  all things were now accomplished, that the
  scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
  Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar and
  they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it

• (Ps 6921) They gave me also gall for my meat
  and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

• Christ thirst physically Had Physical Suffering
• Jesus was fully Human and fully Deity
• (1 Tim 316) And without controversy great is
  the mystery of godliness God was manifest in the
  flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels,
  preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the
  world, received up into glory.

• (John 11-3) In the beginning was the Word, and
  the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The
  same was in the beginning with God. All things
  were made by him and without him was not any
  thing made that was made.
• (John 114) And the Word was made flesh, and
  dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the
  glory as of the only begotten of the Father,)
  full of grace and truth.
• Jesus had two natures
• Divine Nature Son of God
• Human Nature Son of Man

(John 424) God is a Spirit

• The One born in Bethlehem gave proof of His
  Divinity
• He exhibited Divine Power
• Spoke with Divine Wisdom
• Acted with Divine Holiness
• Displayed Divine Love
• Read mens minds
• Had power over nature - Nature Obeyed

• The One born in Bethlehem gave proof of His
  Humanity
• Entered this world as a baby
• As a child, He increased in wisdom and stature
• Asked questions as a young child
• Became weary, hungry, slept, wept, prayed,
  rejoiced, groaned, marveled
• THIRST!

• He was physically thirsty and received no
  satisfaction
• He wants you to spiritually thirst and be
  satisfied
• (John 737) In the last day, that great day of
  the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any
  man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
• (Matt 56) Blessed are they which do hunger and
  thirst after righteousness for they shall be
  filled.
• Righteousness (Rom 116-17) Justification

Words of Victory

• (John 1930) When Jesus therefore had received
  the vinegar, he said, It is finished and he
  bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
• It is Finished Gk tetelestai To end, ie.
  complete, execute, conclude, discharge (a debt)
• When a merchant was paid by a customer, he would
  use the word, tetelestai! which meant, Debt
  Paid in Full!
• With one word Jesus sums up the whole of Gods
  plan of salvation for me and you!

• Jesus finished the work given him
• (John 434) My meat is to do the will of him
  that sent me, and to finish his work.
• His purpose was sumarized at his birth
• (Matt 121) And she shall bring forth a son, and
  thou shalt call his name JESUS for he shall save
  his people from their sins.
• On the cross, Jesus became sin for us!
• (2 Cor 521) For he hath made him to be sin for
  us, who knew no sin that we might be made the
  righteousness of God in him.

• (1 Peter 222-25) Who did no sin, neither was
  guile found in his mouth Who, when he was
  reviled, reviled not again when he suffered, he
  threatened not but committed himself to him that
  judgeth righteously Who his own self bare our
  sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being
  dead to sins, should live unto righteousness by
  whose stripes ye were healed. For ye were as
  sheep going astray but are now returned unto the
  Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

• Paid in full for us Must Obey!
• (Acts 240) Save yourselves from this untoward
  generation.
• (Heb 59) And being made perfect, he became the
  author of eternal salvation unto all them that
  obey him

• He finished and fulfilled the Law?
• (Matt 517-18) Think not that I am come to
  destroy the law, or the prophets I am not come
  to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say
  unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or
  one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law,
  till all be fulfilled.

• He finished and fulfilled the Law?
• (Col 213-15) And you, being dead in your sins
  and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he
  quickened together with him, having forgiven you
  all trespasses Blotting out the handwriting of
  ordinances that was against us, which was
  contrary to us, and took it out of the way,
  nailing it to his cross And having spoiled
  principalities and powers, he made a shew of them
  openly, triumphing over them in it.

• He finished and fulfilled the Law?
• (Heb 812-13) For I will be merciful to their
  unrighteousness, and their sins and their
  iniquities will I remember no more. In that he
  saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first
  old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is
  ready to vanish away.

• He finished his payment for the church that he
  promised to build
• (Matt 1618) And I say also unto thee, That thou
  art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my
  church and the gates of hell shall not prevail
  against it.
• (Acts 2028) Take heed therefore unto
  yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which
  the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed
  the church of God, which he hath purchased with
  his own blood.

• He defeated death and hell for us all
• (Heb 214-15) Forasmuch then as the children are
  partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself
  likewise took part of the same that through
  death he might destroy him that had the power of
  death, that is, the devil And deliver them who
  through fear of death were all their lifetime
  subject to bondage.
• (Rev 118) I am he that liveth, and was dead
  and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen and
  have the keys of hell and of death.

• He defeated death and hell for us all
• (1 Cor 1554-57) So when this corruptible shall
  have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall
  have put on immortality, then shall be brought to
  pass the saying that is written, Death is
  swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy
  sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting
  of death is sin and the strength of sin is the
  law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the
  victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Words of Rest

• (Luke 2346) And when Jesus had cried with a
  loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I
  commend my spirit and having said thus, he gave
  up the ghost.
• (John 1930) When Jesus therefore had received
  the vinegar, he said, It is finished and he
  bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

• Bowed head shows that Jesus gave his life no
  man took it!
• (John 1011) I am the good shepherd the good
  shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
• (John 1017-18) Therefore doth my Father love
  me, because I lay down my life, that I might take
  it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it
  down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and
  I have power to take it again. This commandment
  have I received of my Father.

• His death was more sudden than expected!
• (Mark 1544) And Pilate marvelled if he were
  already dead and calling unto him the centurion,
  he asked him whether he had been any while dead.
• He laid down his life for his Friends
• (John 1513-14) Greater love hath no man than
  this, that a man lay down his life for his
  friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever
  I command you.

What Does Jesus Command?

• He wants Faith
• (John 824) I said therefore unto you, that ye
  shall die in your sins for if ye believe not
  that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
• (Mark 1616) He that believeth and is baptized
  shall be saved but he that believeth not shall
  be damned.
• He wants Repentance
• (Luke 133) Except ye repent, ye shall all
  likewise perish.

What Does Jesus Command?

• He wants you to confess him
• (Matt 1032-33) Whosoever therefore shall
  confess me before men, him will I confess also
  before my Father which is in heaven. But
  whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I
  also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
• He wants you to be buried in baptism
• (Acts 238-39) Then Peter said unto them,
  Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the
  name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,
  and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
  For the promise is unto you, and to your
  children, and to all that are afar off, even as
  many as the Lord our God shall call.

What Does Jesus Command?

• He wants you to live faithful and endure to the
  end
• (Luke 962) No man, having put his hand to the
  plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom
  of God.
• (Mark 1313) But he that shall endure unto the
  end, the same shall be saved.

• Jesus was able to commend his spirit to his
  Father and ease into the sweet abode of rest.
• A Song says

When I close my eyes in death,Fold my hands
across my chest.Sing for me a pretty songWhile
I take my journey home.
Not afraid to bid this world good-bye.Not afraid
to close my eyes and die.For His courage I have
prayed.In His arms I'm not afraid.
