Title: Survey Questions

1
Survey Questions
  • Do you believe in Darwins theory of evolution?

3
Survey Questions
  • If Darwins theory of evolution is taught in
public schools, should other views (including the
divine origin of life through special creation)
    be taught too?

Survey Questions
  • If Darwins theory of evolution is taught in
public schools, should other views (including the
divine origin of life through special creation)
    be taught too?

5
Survey Questions
  • Do you think that scientists are right in their
argument that by giving creationism equal time
they are allowing religion into the public
    schools?

argument that by giving creationism equal time
they are allowing religion into the public
    schools?

7
Survey Questions
  • Were you taught about evolution in your high
    school biology course?

Survey Questions
  • Were you taught about evolution in your high
    school biology course?

9
Survey Questions
  • Is it your impression that most scientists now
believe that the Modern Theory of Evolution is
    NOT a valid scientific theory?

11
Survey Questions
  • Do you believe that the teaching of concepts
which rely on a purely naturalistic explanation
of the world, such as that used in the Modern
Theory of Evolution, might eventually lead to a
    decay of American Society?

Bishop Ussher
  • James Ussher (1581-1656), Archbishop of Armagh,
Primate of All Ireland, and Vice-Chancellor of
    Trinity College in Dublin
  • Chronology work was incorporated into an
authorized version of the Bible printed in 1701
  • Established the first day of creation as Sunday
    23 October 4004 BC
  • Adam and Eve were driven from Paradise on Monday
    10 November 4004 BC
  • Ark touched down on Mt Ararat on 5 May 1491 BC
    on a Wednesday'.

Challenges to Evolution
  • Evolution is not scientific because it cannot be
    observed.
  • Evolution cannot be proven (only a theory).
  • Evolution is not a testable theory because it
could not be ruled out by any possible
    observation.
  • Evolution is a religion, because it is based on
unobservable assumptions and hidden concepts of
ethical values and the "meaning" of life.

15
Challenges to Evolution
  • The order of the universe, and the adaptation of
organisms to their environments, are clear
evidence of intelligent design and purpose.
  • Evolution violates the second law of
    thermodynamics, which states that entropy
    increases over time.
  • It is infinitely improbable that even the
simplest life forms could arise from nonliving
    matter.

16
Challenges to Evolution
  • Mutations are harmful, and cannot give rise to
    adaptive characteristics.
  • Chance cannot be responsible for the development
    of complex organisms.
  • Natural selection is a tautology. It is defined
by "survival of the fittest," and the fittest are
    simply those who survive.
  • A new structure would not have any adaptive
advantage when it is first developed in a
rudimentary form, and therefore could not evolve
by natural selection. (The Eye argument)

17
Challenges to Evolution
  • Transitional intermediates between ancestral
species and their presumed descendants are not
    found in the fossil record.
  • The fossil record is not a valid time sequence,
because evolution is already assumed, and only
then are the rock strata "dated" according to
    their fossil contents.
  • Radioactive dating is unreliable because there is
no proof that radioactive decay occurs at a
    constant rate.

18
Challenges to Evolution
  • Biologists themselves have abandoned the concept
of gradual evolution by natural selection.
  • Evolutionary theory leads to a philosophy that is
materialistic and amoral, and therefore should
not be taught to our children.
