2HISTORY of the MMTA
- The Minor Metals Trade Association (MMTA) was
founded in 1973 when by-product metals were
just starting to be used in mass applications. - The MMTA began with just 7 metals Antimony,
Magnesium, Nickel, Cadmium, Bismuth, Selenium
Mercury. The MMTA now has Contract
Specifications for 59 Minor Metals, 13 Ferro
Alloys 9 Rare Earths. - Necessary to establish clear trading rules in
those early days. - Minor Metals trade activity has increased
dramatically. - Industries that have led the application of
minor metals include super-alloys,
master-alloys, optics, electronics, catalysts,
electronic pastes and many other applications
that are central to the quality of life enjoyed
today.

The MMTA maintains a global network of warehouses
who are registered to handle minor metals with
due care and attention. Registered warehouses are
required to take out insurance against
unexplained losses of USD1.25M and waive their
liability with regard to Minor Metals owned by
