2The Computer Centre
- The Computer Centre has overall responsibility
for the provision of academic and administrative
computer services in UCC - We manage over 1500 computers across the
University - 900 of these are accessible to all students

3Online Registration
- Upon acceptance of your place in UCC you will
have received an Information pack with the
following - Student Number
- PIN
- Detailed Instructions for Registration 2008/09
- Using a browser go http//sit.ucc.ie and login
using your Student ID number and PIN. - After completing the Online Registration you must
print and collect the Letter of Confirmation - You must present this Letter of Confirmation at
Registration Part 2

Student IT Helpdesk
- The Student IT Helpdesk in Boole Basement is the
central point of contact for all computer
enquiries. - All computer related problems and enquiries for
students should be directed to the Student IT
Helpdesk in Boole Basement

8Network Access Account
- A personalised UCC Network Access Account is
available for all students. - The Network Access Account will be required in
order to use the Student IT Centres computers
and/or use registered personally owned
laptops/palmtops on the network. - The Network Access Logon will consist of
- Username which will be your Student ID number
- A password which will be issued to students at
the Registration Pt2 or after this in the Student
IT Helpdesk in the Boole Basement or any of the
manned labs, ORB, Black A, Pres etc.
9Network Access Account Continued
- To activate your account you must present your
valid UCC ID. Students who do not show their UCC
ID will not be given a computer account - A random password will be generated.
- This password is for Logging On to the computers
ONLY. It is completely separate from your PIN. - You are responsible for any activities that take
place under your computer account
10Printing
- Available in the open access IT Centres
- Printing is FREE
- Currently no limit on the amount that can be
printed - Students are not allowed to print CVs or non
academic material. - IT staff have the right to remove any document
that is clearly non academic material - Follow Me Printing Print document in open
access centre A, and release it in open access

12UCC Student Portal
- By logging on at http//sit.ucc.ie with your
Student ID number and PIN you can access
information and services that you will need for
the academic year. - Information available is personalised and the
site incorporates access to - Your student records
- Your student e-mail
- Your customised favourites
- Your username is your Student ID number and your
password is your 4 digit PIN. - Your PIN will be sent to you by the Registrars
Office on acceptance of your place in UCC. - Do not give out your PIN to others
13UCC Direct MyUCC Email link
- An email address is automatically created for
each student. - UCC operates an email for life policy, the
account will continue to exist long after you
leave UCC. - Your email address is your Student_ID_number_at_stude
nt.ucc.ie e.g. 123456_at_student.ucc.ie - MyUCC Email link in UCC Direct takes you directly
into your student email inbox - The University uses this to send you official
notices and general information so it is very
important that you check this email account
regularly - See the Student IT Guide for further information

14Blackboard
- Blackboard is the Virtual Learning Environment
used in UCC - It enables lecturers to create an online learning
environment to supplement your coursework. - To access the Blackboard service, go to
http//sit.ucc.ie or http//blackboard.ucc.ie - Students will be registered for Blackboard
automatically. The login will be your Student ID
Number and the password will be your PIN (sent to
you on acceptance of your place in UCC). - Lecturers will supply further information such as
course passwords, if applicable. - For further details e-mail Ltu_at_ucc.ie
15Laptop Purchase Scheme
- A laptop purchase scheme for UCC students has
been set up by the Computer Centre

- Evros
- Dell
- PFH
- Apple Macs can also be purchased through a
special UCC web page
16Student Wireless Internet
- Registered students can connect their laptop to
the UCC campus network and Internet Using
Wireless Technology - Hotspots are located in various areas of the
College including - Student Centre

17Connecting to the Wireless Network
- To register for Student Wireless
- Go to http//sit.ucc.ie follow the links for
wireless registration - Complete the Online form
- Contact the Student IT Helpdesk in the Boole
Basement - Wireless Registration takes place daily from
1400 1600 Monday - Friday - Students that purchase through the Student Laptop
Scheme, and those that have their own laptops are
eligible to register subject to minimum
requirements.

- Classroom Training
- The Training Centre will be running a free
computer induction course for all students. - This course will provide a basic knowledge of the
computing environment in UCC and aims to provide
students with the skills to navigate through the
UCC IT system. - Classes commence in September and run until mid
to late October - The course is divided into 2 training sessions
approximately one hour in duration each - Training is offered on a first come first served
basis is free to students - To register and for further details on timetables
etc go to the Student Helpdesk in the Boole
