Cross one's finger
2No, I havent. Is there something special?
Have you been to the annual Halloween party held
by Ocean Park?
3Of course! We can go to the haunted house
4Oh, I see, people there dress up in different
costumes, and wear make up to pretend as witches,
vampires, skeletons, mummies and even
Frankenstein.
Haunted house? Its so scary, Im afraid of
ghosts!
5Dont be so scared! They are just fictional
characters which do not exist in reality. Lets
keep our fingers crossed and the devils and
ghosts will be dispelled.
These scary images make us both excited and
frightened.
6I see. Whenever we are worried, scared or
frightened, just cross our fingers and hope for
the best.
Nowadays, we use the idiom cross ones finger
when we are preparing for important events such
as examinations and sports competitions in our
lives.
