Building Deep Bridging our Community
Vision Sunday 2009
4th Jan 2009 Fettes Park Baptist Church
2
Our Vision
We are a City on a Hill that shines the light of
Faith, Hope and Love to our community.
Our Mission
We make disciples to do the work of City
Transformation
3
8 Promises we lay hold of GodIsaiah 22-5
  • In the last days, the mountain of the Lord's
temple will be established as chief among the
mountains. God will establish FPBC. We will be
firmly fixed, rooted and build on Christ the
    Rock.
  • It will be raised above the hills. FPBC will be
visible to our community. We will be like a City
on a Hill that shines the light of faith, hope
    and love into our community.
  • And all nations will stream to it.  Many peoples
will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the
mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of
Jacob. People will be attracted to Christ and
flock the house of God to receive Salvation.
  • Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,
to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach
us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.
FPBC will be a disciple making church.
  • He will judge between the nations and will settle
disputes for many peoples. This house, by the
wisdom and righteousness of God will arbitrate
    the affairs of the community.
  • They will beat their swords into plowshares and
their spears into pruning hooks. The nation will
turn Instruments into instruments of commerce
because they know God and fear Him. FPBC will
provide leadership in nation building and City
    transformation.
  • Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor
will they train for war anymore. One race will
not take up sword against another race anymore.
FPBC will be bridge builders and peacemakers to
bring back racial harmony in the City.
  • Come, O house of Jacob, let us walk in the light
of the LORD. This house shall walk in the ways of
the Lord and the blessings of obedience shall be
evident to all, and this will compel the nations
to walk in the ways of the Lord.

Building Deep
Why do you call me, Lord, Lord, and do not do
what I say? I will show you what he is like who
comes to me and hears my words puts them into
practice. He is like a man building a house, who
dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock.
When a flood came, the torrent struck that house
but could not shake it, because it was well
built. Luke 646-48
Build to last.... The 3-Generation Test

Building Deep
The crisis at the heart of the church is a
crisis of product Bill
Hull Author, The Disciple Making Pastor
Pastors Church Leaders need to ask What kind
of people are we growing in our ministries?
Greg Ogden Professor,
Fuller Theological Seminary
The crisis of the 21st century churches is..We
are not producing people who are a whole lot in
different conviction and lifestyle than the rest
of society
George Barna
Christian Researcher
12
The answer is
Returning the church to its core mission of
making disciples..
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in?? the name of the Father and of
the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching
them to obey everything I have commanded you. And
surely I am with you always, to the very end of
the age. Matthew 2819-20
There is no other mission more important than
this mission..
13
Philosophy of Disciplemaking Its all about a
certain kind of person who is radically committed
to a certain kind of purpose who through a
certain kind of process, reproduces a certain
kind of product
Edmund Chan Sn.
Pastor, Covenant EFC
14
There is a saying
Dont build on the 3 Bs..
Focus on DG..
Major on the MAJOR
15
There is no lack of discipleship models, only
lack of committed disciple makers
16
The Strategy
Start small, build deep
Not found in programs.. But in loving and trusted
relationships
Dr. Thomas Chins model..
Jesus model in the bible..
  • Recipe for successful disciple making
  • Small groups of not more than 4
  • Intimate relationships developing trust as the
    soil for life change
  • Accountability lovingly speaking the truth into
    anothers life
  • Scriptures covering themes that sequentially
creates a holistic picture of the Christian life.
  • Spiritual disciplines practicing habits that
leads to intimacy with Christ and serving others.

17
The ultimate measure of success is the ability to
achieve the following..
  • Transformation
  • Multiplication

18
Getting Started 1.. 2.. 3..
  • Start with the Leaders..
  • Be accountable to someone for our own personal
    growth
  • Start an accountability group with 2 or 3 others.

Bridging our Community
14 You are the light of the world. A city on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light
a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put
it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone
in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light
shine before men, that they may see your good
deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
Matthew 514-16

Bridging our Community
If we dont invent the future someone elses
vision of the future will reinvent us. Christian
should be the most future-friendly people on
earth, because we serve a future minded Lord. The
future is not to be feared but embraced, with
boldness and creative faith. True influence does
not come from how well we celebrate the past or
enjoy the present, it comes from how well we
engage with the future. Mal
Fletcher Founding national director of Youth
