The experience of Lapland

• Il marrive ... davoir le sentiment, quand je
  trace un logogramme, dêtre un Lapon en traîneau
  rapide sur la page blanche, et de saluer la
  nature comme au passage, par la forme même de mon
  cri ou de mon chant ou des deux tout ensemble. En
  tout cas, si la Laponie nexistait pas, je ne
  ferais pas de logogrammes  je ne ferais rien du
  tout.
• Occasionally I have the feeling, when I am
  tracing a logogramme, of being a Lapp on a fast
  sledge on the white page, and of saying hello to
  nature like in passing, by the very form of my
  cry or my song or of both together. In any case,
  if Lapland didnt exist, I wouldnt make
  logogrammes, I wouldnt do anything at all.

From Cobra to Logogus

• Et lanimal Cobra devenait yeti, évoluant sur
  le papier blanc du désert, gravissant lencre par
  bondissements et méditation, en logogramme.
  Jai donc entrepris, Extrême-Nord, de me
  décentrer, de te chanter sur le désert blanc du
  papier, de te danser, de ne plus me relire, de
  técrire.
• And the animal Cobra became the yeti, evolving
  on the white paper of the desert, climbing the
  ink by jumps and meditation, in a logogramme.
  ... So I started, in the Extreme North, to
  decenter myself, to sing you on the white desert
  of the paper, to dance you, not to read me
  anymore, but to write to you.

fois rares et nombreuses selon lil, selon le
champ, selon la mémoire stratificatrice des vues
anciennes dautres voyages et la mémoire
stratificatrice immédiatement des vues
nécessairement variées de ce paysage même jy
insiste la plupart de ces différences de vue
sont dues surtout à la disposition naturelle du
paysage même, la nuit, à ses infinies variations
inabsolues, et non moins à la neige, et au jeu
encore plus infini des ces variations entre
elles. But the things in the wintery landscape
in Lapland are at the same time rare and numerous
according to the eye, to the view, to the
layering memory of past scenes of other travels
and the immediately layering memory of the
necessarily varied scenes of this very landscape
... I insist most of these differences of sight
... depend first and foremost on the natural
disposition of the landscape itself, in the
night, on its infinite inasbolute variations, et
not least on the snow, and on the even more
infinite play of the variations among each other.
