What is the Problem?

• Energy crisis is a situation in which a nation
  suffers from a disruption of energy supplies
  accompanied by rapid increasing energy prices
• The U.S. dependence on petroleum imports has
  grown steady over the last decade
• Petroleum inventories are low

What is the extent of the problem?

• Dependence on oil imports grew from 35 in 1973
  to 42 in 1978
• With oil prices collapsing in 1986, dependence
  once again resumed its upward path to 55 in 2001

A Solution to the Energy Crisis

• Americas green chalked up a victory when the
  U.S. voted to keep funding for oil drilling in
  the Artic National Wildlife Refuge out of the
  fiscal year 2004 budget
• The U.S. Department of Energy estimates the ANWR
  could yield as much as 1,369,863 barrels of oil
  daily
• Texas produces 1,065,753 barrels
