Title: Welcome to First Grade

Welcome to First Grade
  • Ms. Calhoun
  • Room 12

Welcome to the first grade! This is going to be
an exciting time for both you and your child.
By the end of the year, your child should have
acquired a great foundation for all basic
subjects (reading, writing, and math). The best
insurance your child has for a successful year is
open communication between parents and teachers.
Please feel free to talk to me about any concerns
you have about your childs education and
progress. If you ever need clarification on
various events/activities that will be taking
place this school year, please do not hesitate to
ask questions. My conference period is Monday
through Friday from 1150-1240. The school
phone number is 830-393-5310 and my email address
is wcalhoun_at_fisd.us.

  • Attendance policy When a student is absent, a
hand written notice needs to be sent the day the
student returns to class.   If a note is not
received within three school days, the absence
will be unexcused.  Awards will be given for
perfect attendance.  The 90 attendance rule will
be enforced (9 days per semester or 18 days per
year).  If they miss more than that, they can be
    retained.
  • Absentee notes must include students full name,
all absent dates (a doctors note is required
after 5 consecutive days), acceptable reason for
    absence, and a parent/guardian signature.
  • 9. Floresville Primary students begin their day
with  the Pledge of Allegiance, a moment of
silence, and  announcements.  The teachers pick
the students up in the morning  when the bell
rings at 735 a.m., alternating from week to week
between the pavillion and the playground.  There
will be a sign on the classroom door showing
where students need to report each morning before
the bell rings. We would like to ask for your
help with making this transition as smooth as
possible.   If you would like to talk to a
teacher,  please call and set up a conference
time.  You may also call or send a note for
information you need or would like to let us
    know.

  • 10. If your child will be eating breakfast at
school, they must be in the cafeteria by 725
a.m. to ensure they have enough time to eat.
  • 11. If your child will not participate in PE, a
written note must be sent to school and will be
given to Mr. Hosek who will excuse your child
from the activity. Please make sure your child
wears appropriate clothing and tennis shoes on
the days we go to P.E. We will be on a seven day
rotation. You will find the rotation information
    on the gold sheet.
  • 12. Please send all lunch money in an envelope or

have a snack, please send one to school with your
child however, please inform your child that
he/she cannot share their snack with anyone.

order to prevent any mix ups. We will try to
    have snack time each day.

Character Education
All students will be following our Character
Education Program. Each student will have a
daily folder with their homework/ behavior sheet
inside. This folder will reflect the student's
behavior for the entire day.  After reviewing
the homework and behavior for the day, please
sign the folder where it says parent
signature.  The folder will be checked every
morning . It is extremely important that your
child brings the folder back to school the
following day. All rules and consequences are
school-wide. Every Tuesday each student will be
given a Tuesday folder with important information
from the school, along with graded papers from
the previous week.  This folder needs to be
signed and returned on Wednesday.  This will
begin on Sept. 4th.    The students will receive
a new homework/behavior sheet each Monday or the
beginning of the week with their weekly
assignments.   A copy of the assignments can
also be found on the class web page.

Transportation
Please let us know how your child will be
getting home each day. If transportation
changes, it is very important that you send a
written note, write it on the gold sheet, or
notify the office of the change. If no notice is
received, your child will be sent home the usual
way. Please let the school know if there are
any emergency information changes. It is very
important that we can contact someone that can
assume responsibility of your child if an
emergency ever arises.
