Island Wildlife

• Kangaroo Island is one of the best places in
  Australia to see a wide range of wildlife
• A quarter of the land is protected by
  conservation areas and national parks
• Animals to be found on the island are echidnas,
  platypuses, small penguins, fur seals, sea lions,
  and whales in the nearby ocean
• Kangaroo Island is home to over 200 different
  kinds of birds and snakes.

• Kangaroo Islands climate is best described as
  temperate.
• The island tends to be a few degrees cooler in
  the summer and a few degrees warmer in the winter
  than the mainland of Australia.
• The sea plays a major role of the weather and
  conditions can change frequently throughout the
  day.

Kangaroo Island Location and Geography
Kangaroo Island is located off the southern coast
of South Australia.
Kangaroo Island has 509 km. of coastline, is 155
km from east to west, and is 55 km at its widest
point. Kangaroo Island is also the third largest
island of Australia

Island Industry

• Tourism is a fundamental aspect of Kangaroo
  Islands economy and is visited by tens of
  thousands of people each year
• The agriculture industry has adapted to the poor
  soil and forestry, and bee keeping, sheep
  dairying, and marron farming have become the most
  popular
• A marron is a freshwater crustacean that is like
  a cross between a lobster and a yabbie and there
  are about 140 licensed farmers on the island
• Viticulture ( the making of wine) has begun
  because the vines grow well in the moderate
  climate
