• These include squid, cuttlefish and octopuses
  plus various extinct groups most importantly the
  belemnites.
• Draw a typical belemnite with soft parts (Page 94
  Fig. 60 a).
• It is a cephalopod but with an internal rather
  than exoskeleton.

BELEMNITES

• The shell usually has three parts
• The guard Bullet shaped cylinder of calcite.
• Phragmacone Conical thin walled structure in
  front of the guard.
• Has a slender siphuncle and tiny protoconch.
• Pro-ostracum Long flat tongue pointing forwards.
• Appears to be a kind of fossilised squid.
• Mode of life similar to ammonites.
