2
Assyrian Empires
3
Three Empires
  • Assyria was originally formed in the 3rd
millennium B.C., but was over shadowed by Sumer
    and Akkad.
  • 1. In the 17th century B.C. Assyria expanded, but
    it weakened quickly.
  • 2. In the 13th century B.C., under Tiglathpileser
I, the Assyrian soldiers expanded their Empire
and reached the Kingdom of Urartu, took
Babylonia, and even crossed North Syria to the
Mediterranean. However this also was short lived.

4
Three Empires
  • 3. It was from 900 to 610 B.C. that the greatest
expansion of the Assyrian Empire was seen.

5
The Early Period
  • 1. The Early Period is from 934 to 745 B.C.
  • 2. It was Ashurnasirpal II that through his
vigorous and barbarously cruel military campaigns
expanded the Empire to Urartu in the North, the
Mediterranean and Lebanon to the West. He
maintained this new Empire by putting Assyrian
governors over the conquered countries rather
    than just extracting taxes.
