Enhancement of VISN 7 Consult TemplatesPresented
byBirmingham Prosthetics
46
Objectives
  • Decrease number of incorrect prosthetic consults.
  • Improve Patient Care
  • Expedite Timeliness of Processing Orders
  • Streamline Accountability of Purchasing Agents

47
Physicians complained that CPRS Prosthetic Menu
was not user friendly which resulted in incorrect
consult selection.
48
With Physician and CPRS support Consults have
been categorized.
49
Current Guidelines require that all Prosthetic
Consults receive action within five (5) workdays.
50
Before the enhancement, we were only able to sort
in the Type column by eyeglasses, manual,
oxygen,
51
Auto adaptive, clone, clothing allowance or
routine.
52
  • Although you could sort on the description field
prior to the enhancement, it would pull over free
text data that was not standardized.

53
With enhancement of the VISN 7 Consult Template,
you can now sort on the description field. This
enables us to sort by category of consults based
on our current consult setup, i.e. surgical
implant, low vision, speech, audiology, ect.
54
The purchasing agents can quickly scan for high
priority consults such as surgical implants,
55
and hospital beds.
56
PAs assigned to specific areas that include a
variation of SSs do not have to individually
review all consults to find their specialty
consults. For ex consults generated by BRC.
57
Low Vision CCTV, and Low Vision (living/mobility
devices).
58
Another added benefit for Prosthetics. When
cloning a consult, it contains a brief
description of the consult in Vista.
59
Additional Sort Benefits
  • Utilize Vista Suite sort option to monitor
    mandatory contract compliance.
  • Create management monitoring tool by using excel
    function of Vista Suite.

60
Prosthetic Contract Compliance
  • Currently Prosthetics has mandatory contract
compliance guidelines in place for over sixty
    (60) prosthetic items.
  • Compliance for these items is monitored quarterly
and the results are sent out via scorecard.
  • For exampleBlood Pressure Monitors

61
Bp Monitor Spreadsheet
This is our Current Bp Monitor Guideline.
62
Contract Compliance is Monitored on the following
  • Item Description
  • Vendor
  • HCPCS code (Healthcare Common Procedure Coding
    System)
  • Compliant Contract Cost

63
Vista Suite can be utilized to monitor contract
compliance for any errors made by the purchasing
agent by using excel function.
64
Prosthetic GUI Suite
65
Click on the NPPD Detail Display Report Option.
66
Select the date range that you are interested in
reviewing.
67
To sort by preference, you click on the column
header. In this case we sorted by HCPCS.
68
To convert to an Excel Spreadsheet you would
click on the Excel button.
69
Converted into Excel Spreadsheet.
70
Use your sorting tools to sort by HCPC, Vendor
and Cost to check for Compliant errors.
Above you can see, for demonstration Purposes,
Highlighted in Green the Column headers and
Highlighted in Yellow the non-compliant orders.
71
Using the NPPD for a Management Tool.
72
Sort by Initiator.
73
Total the line items purchased by each PA to get
the data for your analyses.
74
Charted data pulled from Spreadsheet.
75
Compliance is based on 95 of the total
purchased.Review of non-compliant purchases
revealed typographical errors by the purchasing
agent which were corrected.
