  • The Chinese Lantern is a very unique plant. This
plant is found scattered across the United
States. Actually the Chinese Lantern is native to
Europe and Asia. The Chinese Lantern is a member
of the nightshade family and is related to
tomatoes, peppers, and petunias. This little
plant is beautiful and changes gardens into
    wonderful places.

  • The Chinese Lantern, also known as a gooseberry
tomato, has a very interesting way of
living.Chinese lanterns prefer to grow in warm
weather with lots of water, and blooms in
mid-summer. The husk looks like a Chinese paper
lantern, and is a translucent red color. The
Hibiscus Beetle and The Metallic Flea both harm
The Chinese Lantern. The Chinese Lantern grows
from18-36in. The plant may need extra care to
survive but they are very pretty.

4
  • The Chinese Lantern is both helpful and harmful.
Parts of the plants are edible and parts are
poisonous. The little red fruit that grows in the
husk is edible but not very tasty considering
that it contains more vitamin C than a lemon. The
rest of the plant is poisonous, possibly fatal.
The little red berry was used in some medicines
thus making the Chinese Lantern a very wanted
plant. The Chinese Lantern is here to help us but
if used the wrong way, will hurt us.

5
  • The plants grow more than one pod on one plant.
There is more of a clump.
  • When the flower blooms, they are white and in a
    sort of star shape.

6
  • This is the husk when the berry is ripe. The
outer case will start to die then fall of .
  • And before.
