Title: Benjamin%20Franklin
1Benjamin Franklin
2Who was Benjamin Franklin?
- Benjamin Franklin did a LOT of stuff whilst he
was alive. And no, Im not exaggerating! - He was known as a
- Inventor
- Scientist (1748-1757)
Politician (1748-1757) - Soldier (1748-1757) Writer
- Statesman
Diplomat - Printer (1657-1730) Rising
citizen (1731-1747) - Philosopher

Economist -
3How does the experiment work?
So, how does the experiment work? Many people
know the story but few know the science of
it. The thunderclouds are full of negatively
charged particles, and when Franklin flew his
kite those particles leaked onto it, all the way
down to his key and into the Leyden jar which
collected to electricity. Franklin, however, was
unaffected by these particles because he held the
kite on a dry silk string, which insulated him
from any electricity. Franklin did hold out his
hand to touch the key and received a shock. Why?
Because the negatively charged particles in the
key were attracted so strongly to the positively
charged particles in Benjamins hand, it allowed
a spark to jump from the key to his hand.
Franklin had just proved lightning was just
static electricity.
Now lets see the experiment at work.
4Freda is recreating Franklins experiment minus
the Leyden Jar.
5Franklins Theory
In 1752 Franklin had a theory that if a kite that
is holding a key was flown in a thunderstorm the
lightning clashing with the magnetic object (the
key) would cause sparks and an electric current.
When he tested this out he realised his theory
was correct and received a gold medal from Sir
Godfrey Copley!!!
6As we can see, the key has been charged.
7Conclusion
- Benjamin Franklin was an amazing person. He is
very famous and is well known for his thirst for
knowledge! If he did not make his contribution to
the world then electricity would not be how we
know it is today. The contribution he made
towards the world is phenomenal! -

you for watching
Fred would wave goodbye, but he is late for work
and as we all know this isnt the first time so
he must dash. Bye Fred!
Freda is going to stay and say goodbye and fly
her kite. Thank you Freda!
Oh no the winds picked up and Freda is only
small. Let go of the kite Freda or you will be
blown away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh no Freda has been blown away!!!!!!!!
