  • Porcupines can roll into a ball. Porcupines eat
leaves and bark from trees. They live in hollow
trees. Porcupines slash their enemy with their
tail. Their enemies are foxes, fishers, coyotes
    and wolves.

3
  • Their quills are sharp. Porcupines are good
climbers, and good swimmers. Porcupines are
clever. Porcupines are bigger than a beaver.
Porcupines are mammals. When a baby porcupine is
born its quills are powerful. Porcupines do not
lay eggs. Porcupines have about 30,000 quills.
Their belly do not have quills.

4
  • They are dark brown. Did you know that their
quills can come off easily? Porcupines are large
slow animals. They have a thick tail. The
porcupine comes out to eat at night. The
porcupine usually has a favorite tree.

5
  • A quill is not easy to remove. It works itself
into the skin. The quills stick into their enemy.
Porcupines have sharp claws. North American
porcupines are the second biggest rodents on the
continent. Theyre at least as heavy as a pail of
ice. The porcupine moves slowly. Porcupines have
    poor eyesight.

6
  • The porcupine uses his long sharp teeth to gnaw
on tree bark.. They can weigh up to forty pounds
and grow to over three feet long. It shakes its
body back and forth, and the quills make a
ratting sound. It growls and chatters its teeth.
In the winter porcupines eat tree bark. During
the warmer months they eat leaves, grasses,
    shoots, roots and flowers.
