- Verbs with reflexive pronouns
- -If the subject and object of a verb are the
same, a reflexive
pronoun can be used. The reflexive pronoun shows
that the subject acts upon itself. When
you conjugate a verb like lavarse, include the
reflexive pronoun that agrees
with the subject.
- Here are some reflexive verbs
- afeitarse (to shave)
- acostarse (oue) (to go to bed)
- bañarse (to bathe)
- despertarse (eie) (to wake up)
- entrenarse (to work out)
- estirarse (to stretch)
- levantarse (to get up)

6- -Some verbs can be used with or without reflexive
pronouns. Just remember to use a reflexive
pronoun when the subject acts
upon itself when the subject receives the action

- -(Juan bathes (himself) after P.E. class.)
- -La Sra. Peña baña a sus hijos cada noche.

- Using infinitives
- -A reflexive pronoun can go at the end of an
infinitive or before a conjugated verb. The
meaning does not change. - -I need to shave today.
- -(Yo) necesito afeitarme hoy. /
- -(Yo) me necesito afeitar hoy.
- -They are going to brush their hair and put on
makeup. - -(Ellas) van a peinarse el pelo y
maquillarse. / - -(Ellas) se van a peinar el pelo y maquillar.
8- -To say what someone just did or just
finished doing, use the present tense of acabar
de infinitive. - -I just washed my dog.
- -(Yo) acabo de lavar mi perro.
- -Mom, we just finished setting the table.
- -Mamá, (nosotros) acabamos de
poner la mesa. - -Did you finish doing your homework?
- -Acabas de hacer la/tu tarea?
9- -Use the preposition para before an infinitive to
explain your purpose for doing something (in
order to). Verbs after prepositions/prepositional
phrases such as para, antes de, and después de
are in the infinitive. - -I need to study before taking (tomar) the test.
- -(Yo) necesito estudiar antes de tomar el
examen. - -After eating dinner, my mom goes to the gym.
- -Después de cenar, mi mamá va al gimnasio.
- -My dad likes to watch t.v. in order to relax.
- -A mi papá le gusta ver/mirar la televisión
