2Slide 1 Farm Background
- Since 1923, the Davis farm have owned two dairy
farms on the dip slope of the Chilterns close to
Great Missenden.
- Due to the rapid increase of the herds of dairy
pedigree Guernsey Cows in the late 1920s, the
Wren Davis Milk Delivery Round began.
- Another farm was bought in 1967
- This increased the size of farmland owned by the
original owners granddaughter Virginia to a
massive 148 hectares of land, 23 of which are
woodland.
- Virginia tries to farm the land naturally with
very little artificial fertilisers. The has even
joined the Soil Association because she feels
that farming naturally is the best way and
environmentally way to farm.

- The Davis Family Farm is a commercial farm
because they sell their products to people.
- The Davis Family Farm produces large outputs of
products, therefore being an Intensive farm.
- The Davis Family Farm are a labour extensive
farm because lots of machines are used to help
out, like tractors for example.
- Dairy Farming is a type of farming when milk
products, or milk related products like cheese or
butter are produced.
- The Davis Family Farm follow the method of Dairy
Farming.

Input seasonal goods, artificial fertilizer,
cows advertisement, livestock food, and labor
Feedback Cows, land and some unused resources
such as fertilizers
Process Feed cows, take care of cows kill them
for food and milk them. Growing crops and taking
care of the farm.

5Government policies
- Countryside steward scheme
- Pay farmers from damaging the environment.
They are granted approximately 200 pounds per
hector they preserve and not grow crops - England Rural Development Program
- The program that is aimed to encourage
farmers to preserve their land and encourage them
to do diversities. - DEFRA subsidies (Department environment ,Food
and Rural Affairs) - The department that encourages the development
of farms. This also gave enough money for the
Davis Family farm to spend in other business such
as wheat growing
6Scientific Changes
Recent scientific advances
- Lately, improvements in local roads has increased
the accessibility to their customers and to the
urban markets, such as Oxfordshire in West. The
Davis Farm can also improve their sales by the
introduction of refrigerated lorry, which makes
sure that the milk stays fresh. More over, the
the introduction of computers have affected the
current dairy markets greatly because of its
convenience and accuracy.
7Conclusion
We have looked at The Davis Farm from different
aspect of farming, including, Farm back ground,
Type of farming, Dairy farming as a system,
affect of government policies and scientific
advances. The Davis farm is now developing more
and more, but still keeping their organically
farming method. The Davis Farm is planning to
accept more and more advanced methods of farming,
which might include more machinery and better
delivery system.
