Background

• Pathogens can cause disease in lab animals and/or
  influence outcomes of research studies.
  Unpredicted interactions between host genes,
  pathogens, and environmental factors can
  influence research outcomes.
• Pathogens in lab animal species can result in
  zoonoses.
• Standards in animal care are insufficiently
  characterized and described.

• Assess current and future challenges and propose
  potential solutions.
• Facilitate and promote the dialogue among
  scientists from animal resource facilities
  (rodents, non-human primates, zebrafish).
