About Green Turtles!
Turtles are reptiles. They are cold blooded. This
means that they are as cold or warm as the air or
water around them. Baby Green Turtles eat
plankton and other small animals. Adult Green

seaweeds.

Enemies!
At night, most young turtles leave their nests
when there are not so many enemies about. Gulls,
crabs and wild animals all eat hatching turtles.

Protection!
The shell on the Green Turtles back protects most
of its body, but unlike other turtles, the Green
Turtle cannot pull its head and flippers under
its shell. .It also depends on speed and size in
the water for protection. For instance, and adult
Green Turtle may be over 1 meter long, and can
swim more than 30 km through the sea!

Mating and Breeding!
Heaps of turtles come to the same place to find a
partner. They mate in the water close to the
beach. Green Turtles are ready to breed when they
are between 8 and 10 years old. They breed every
2 or 3 years. Once the female as laid her eggs,
she covers them with sand then they wait for 2
months before their young turtles hatch.
