How Do WE Begin to Unlock the Mystery?

• WE begin by introducing our students to the
  program known as Career Pathways.
• Parents can begin by discussing their careers
  choices with their children.

What is a Pathway??

• They are large clusters of careers.
• These careers share similar characteristics.
• The careers also call for many of the same
  strengths, competencies, and academic classes.

Why do we teach Career Pathways?

• It is the KEY to helping students match their
  interests to a specific pathway.
• Career Pathways can also teach students how to
  develop a plan so they may reach their
  occupational goal.

• Arts and Communication
• Business, Management, Marketing and Technology
• Engineering/Manufacturing and Industrial
  technology
• Health Sciences
• Human Services
• Natural Resource and Agriscience

Arts and Communication

• This pathway relates to the visual, literary, and
  media arts.
• People who value creativity and display a musical
  or artistic talent are drawn to this pathway.
• Careers include Actor,
• Journalist, and Disk Jockeys.

Business, Management, Marketing Technology

• This pathway focuses on careers that relate to
  various aspects of business.
• People who are good with math and enjoy being the
  leader tend to be drawn to this pathway.
• Careers include Bank Teller, Accountant, and
  Court Clerk.

Engineering,Manufacturing Industrial Technology

• Careers in this pathway relate to the use of
  machinery or working with tools.
• A person going into this pathway must enjoy
  working with tools and want to see immediate
  results.
• Careers include Chemist,
• Aircraft Mechanic, and Dry Wall Installer .

Health Sciences

• These careers are related to the promotion of
  health and treatment of injuries and diseases.
• A person must be interested in health issues and
  like working with others.
• Careers include Dental Assistant, Pharmacist,
  and Veterinarian.

Human Services

• This pathway focuses on careers in education,
  civil service, and social services.
• An individual interested in this field must enjoy
  interaction with others and helping people solve
  their problems.
• Careers include Judge, Psychologist, and Postal
  Clerk.

Natural Resources and Agriscience

• These careers are related to the environment and
  agriculture.
• A person entering this field must enjoy working
  outdoors and can work in various weather
  conditions.
• Careers include Botanist,
• Tree Surgeon, and Biologist.

So what are the steps to identifying a Career
Pathway?

• Students need to discover their interests and
  values.
• Students must learn and discover what they excel
  at and focus on those strengths.
• Students need to be exposed to various guest
  speakers and field trips.
• Students must begin to narrow their choices down
  to one pathway they would like to explore.
• Parents should encourage and help them to explore.

• Provides all students with a basis for planning.
• Helps students to learn the specific knowledge
  and skills necessary for their career choices.
• Pathway allows students to see the relevance
  between classes in school and their future goals.
• Helps parents and other adults provide better
  assistance to young people as they discuss their
  career and educational options.
• Makes students aware of the broad
• range of careers and the need to become
• life long learners.
