2Standard Professional I License
- A three year license which allows the teacher
to begin practicing the profession on an
independent basis in North Carolina. - To be issued a Standard Professional I License,
an individual must complete an approved teacher
education program and meet the federal
requirements to be designated highly qualified.
3Standard Professional II License
- A continuing license that allows the teacher to
serve on an on-going basis. A Standard
Professional II License must be renewed every 5
years.
4Standard Professional I License
- Teachers who are fully licensed and Highly
Qualified in another state, can be fully licensed
and Highly Qualified in North Carolina. - Must have verification of HQ Status and License
Status. - Must have at least a bachelors degree from a
regionally accredited institution.

- A 3 year Initial Licensure Program (Beginning
Teachers Support Program) is required for
beginning teachers. - Initially Licensed Teachers (ILT) are to be
assigned a mentor. - Individual Growth Plans are required.
- Probationary teachers are required to have 4
observations each year and a summative evaluation.
6Converting the Standard Professional I to a
Standard Professional II
- Three years of satisfactory teaching experience.
- Have the recommendation of the employing school
system. - Complete the professional development activities
prescribed by the employing school system.

- Satisfactorily complete NC testing requirements
for the teaching area - OR satisfactorily complete the NC HOUSSE for the
teaching area

- OR receive a satisfactory evaluation in the most
recent year of employment in NC, which verifies
the ability to positively impact student
learning, - AND verification of the LEA intent to offer
re-employment to the teacher for the following
year. The teacher will not be required to accept
the offer of re-employment.
9Conversion to a Standard Professional II License
- Meet all 8 Major Functions at or above on the
last two Teacher Performance Appraisal Instrument
(TPAI) Summative - Recommendation from Principal that Beginning
Teacher Support Program was completed
successfully

- DPI will electronically submit a list of
individuals ready for the conversion - Licensure will electronically submit the request
for the conversion based upon the recommendation
from the principal and successful completion of
the BT program - DPI will issue the license and send to Licensure
11IREDELL-STATESVILLE SCHOOLS CONTRACT INFORMATION
- CONTRACT REQUIREMENTS
- Probationary period is four consecutive years
- Minimum of 120 days each school year
- (not holidays, vacation days, sick leave, etc.)
- performed as a teacher.
- All in the same school system
- Then tenure/career may be granted
12STATE REQUIREMENTS FOR A RENEWAL 5-YEAR CYCLE
(Continuing License/Standard Professional II)
- Must earn 15 renewal credits (CEU-Continuing
Education Units) every five years - 1 Credit/CEU 10 clock hours
- Each full year of teaching earns 1 Credit/CEU
(120 workdays in the classroom). - Classroom/Lead teachers serving K-8 must earn 3
credits in Reading Methods

- Reading Credits are not required for
Administrative or Student Services -
- School Administrators must earn 5 credits
specific to the Principals role (effective for
cycles ending 6/30/2008) - National Board Certification process grants 15
credits (individual must submit written
documentation)
