What is Interprofessional education?
  • Occasions when two or more professions learn
    with, from and about each other to improve
    collaboration and the quality of care"

Aims of Interprofessional Education
  • To generate a greater appreciation of
    professional roles within the healthcare system
  • To develop an understanding of the importance of
    communication between healthcare professionals
  • To demonstrate how interprofessional
    collaboration can improve the effectiveness of
    team working and ultimately patient care

Why do we do it?
  • Teamwork and cohesion are vital to the delivery
    of patient care
  • Establishment of an ethos of co-operative working
    among health care professionals must ultimately
    benefit patients
  • For this to be successful it has to start in the
    undergraduate teaching curriculum

  • There is now general acceptance that a much
    greater proportion of professional development
