Thesis
  • Sexual Education, preferably Comprehensive Sexual
Education, should be taught in high schools
    because teenagers are becoming increasingly
sexually active during their teen years and are
    uneducated about sex.

3
What is Sexual Education?
I wish I would have had sexual education.
  • Course that helps teens form their own opinion
about sexual activity while giving them a look at
    the reproductive system, sexual transmitted
    diseases, human anatomy and contraception.

4
Types of Sexual Education
  • Comprehensive Sex Education
  • Course that includes information about human
    anatomy, reproductive system, contraceptives, and
    sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Abstinence Centered Sex Education
  • Course that includes HIV information,
    contraceptives, non-coital sexual activity
reproductive, but stresses the benefits of
    restraining from sexual activity.
  • Abstinence Until Marriage Sex Education
  • Course that includes material that emphasizes
restraint from all sexual activity outside of
marriage. No information about STDs or

Why Comprehensive Sex Ed. Should Be Taught
  • Young People under 25 experience 9.1 million
    sexually transmitted diseases a year
  • The average sexually active age is 14.9
  • By age 18, 70 of girls and 62 of boys have had
    sex
  • In the U.S., young women experience as many as
    850,000 pregnancies a year

6
Why Abstinence Sex Ed. Shouldnt be Taught
  • Studies found that federal funded abstinence
courses curriculum contained over 80 of
    misleading information
  • Students who participate in these programs are
just as likely to be sexually active as students
who dont participate in the course
  • Students also have similar number of sexual
partners as those students who dont participate
    in the course
  • Congress spends 176 million dollars a year on
    abstinence programs that arent effective

7
What Parents Think
  • 2004 poll from parents given by the Kaiser Family
    Foundation
  • 93 of parents want Sexual Education in high
schools while 7 of parents do not.
  • The 93 thought that the sex. education would be
    helpful to their children

8
In Conclusion
  • Comprehensive sex. education is effective and
    doesnt promote sexual activity
  • Helps young people develop their own opinions
about sex and sexual behavior while giving them a
    healthy look at sexual behavior
  • Make sure to vote for the 2008 Presidential
    Candidate who supports comprehensive sex.
education in high schools and urge Congress to
    support it for federal funding!
