Yousuf was asked by a local caravan manufacturing
business to work on a current design issue for
the company. His brief was to design a set of
folding steps which would open into position
whenever the caravan door was opened. He analysed
different types of materials which might be used
and created three different designs using CAD-CAM
software.
Yousuf spent one week working in the parts
department of a car dealership. Later on, he
spent six days in a high street bicycle shop.
The shop was impressed with his mechanical
knowledge of bikes so he worked in their repair
department, servicing customers bikes and
assembling new bikes when they were delivered to
the shop.
Progression route Yousufs Diploma experience
has intensified his desire to work in the
automotive industry. He has obtained a job as a
trainee at a tyre and exhaust centre which
specialises in carrying out this type of repair
to cars. He is currently working towards a motor
vehicle NVQ Level 1 and plans to eventually
become a fully qualified motor vehicle technician
by achieving further qualifications through his
work.
