46
Differences and similarities in
  • Catholic
  • and
  • Protestant
  • churches

47
  • Most Protestant churches were originally built
as Catholic churches ,so they have a long nave
    and aisles with a transept.
  • The altar is at the far end of the nave.
  • The pulpit is above the pews,so churchgoers have
to look up to the priest.
  • There are confessionals.

48
  • In Protestant churches there are pews in the
    transept,too .
  • The table of communion(not called altar) is
    closer to the centre.
  • It is not raised, so churchgoers surround their
pastor as they listen to him.
  • In new churches there are no naves and
    aisles,they have a large,central room that can
have multiple functions at the same time.

49
  • Roman Chatolic churches are richly decorated.
  • Paitings and murals of saints ,stories from the
Bible can be seen on the walls and ceilings.
  • In Protestant churches there are no figures and
there is little decoration at all.
  • The walls are white.
  • There are no confessionals,either.
