Title: Grid added value for medical imaging
1Grid added value for medical imaging
- Distributed data remote data storage and
processing - Distributed processing Pipelines processing
- Parallel computing Modeling and simulation
Bioengineering research group, Auckland
2Earth Observations
- ESA missions
- about 100 Gbytes of data per day (ERS 1/2)
- 500 Gbytes, for the next ENVISAT mission (2001).
- DataGrid contribute to EO
- enhance the ability to access high level
products - allow reprocessing of large historical archives
- improve Earth science complex applications (data
fusion, data mining, modelling )

3Envisat Facilities in Europe
- 10 european sites
- 4000 researchers/users
- 15 countries

4Earth Observation challenges
- Generalisation of Earth Science application
infrastructure to become GRID-aware - consider near real-time constraints
- Extend GRID access to European Environmental and
Earth Science applications - to large science communities
- to value adding and commercial communities
- Demonstrate collaborative environment for Earth
Science

5Dissemination, Exploitation, Collaborations
6Dissemination tasks in brief
- Provide and maintain the basic e-tools for
dissemination and management (web, mail..) - Co-ordinate the by country dissemination
activities (brief seminars) - Foster the Industrial Deployment (IR Forum)
- Support the Open Source adoption by researcher
and individuals
7InterProjects Collaboration
- DataGrid is
- represented and coordinated with the GGF
- in contact with the Globus development team
- in contact with the Griphyn project
- coordinated with EUROGRID and Damien
- in contact with the PPDG Particle Physics Data
Grid - Open to new collaborations, especially with
industries
8Industry and Research Forum
- It is the main point of contact between Industry
and Grid Research - Lead by INFN, managed by Italian CNR
- Involve as many european and worldwide industries
than possible - Yearly conferences foreseen (first one in spring
2001) - Industry advantages in IR Forum participation
- Being in the mainstream of a promising technology
since its development phase - Being able to achieve expertise before
competitors - Being able to provide requirements and influence
the design of this new computing model - Being able to timely develop grid-enabled
products
