COURSE DESCRIPTION
  • This course will teach the fundamentals of
    television production from conception to
    completion.
  • In addition to a foundation in production theory,
aesthetics, and principles, each student will
receive hands-on training in a professional
    production facility.
  • This course will seek to integrate theoretical
    views of telecommunications with professional
    realities.

5
COURSE OBJECTIVES

production equipment and facilities i.e. cameras,
switchers, audio consoles, tape recorders, and
    lighting equipment.
  • To learn the basic principles, procedures, and
    techniques of television production.
  • To gain knowledge of and develop skill and
    creativity in various production positions.

6
COURSE OBJECTIVES
  • To cooperate with other students as an integral
    member of a production team.
  • To develop aesthetic and critical insights which
will enable proper appreciation and evaluation of
    production techniques.

  • The final grade is calculated as follows
  • 15 Best 3 of 4 Quizzes (No Curves)
  • 25 Comprehensive Mid-Term Exam (Curved)
  • 30 Final Project
  • 25 Comprehensive Final Exam (Curved)
  • 5 Participation and Attendance

10
ATTENDANCE POLICY
  • Because 312 meets only once a week attendance
becomes more important than usual to the
    instructional process.
  • One absence is the same as missing three sessions
    (a full week) of a traditional Monday-Wednesday-Fr
    iday class.
  • Further, your absence means that you are not
available to your classmates for those group
activities in which your participation is
    necessary.

11
ATTENDANCE POLICY
  • Four absences (excused or not) are equivalent to
missing more than one-fifth of the course contact
hours, and you may be required to take a "W"
    grade in the course.
  • Therefore, your attendance is expected at each
class session. Your final grade is dependent upon
class attendance. Unexcused absences will result
    in a lower final grade.

12
ATTENDANCE POLICY
  • Absences will be considered excused only when
they meet the criteria set forth in the
University Senate Rule on absences and the
    Student Rights And Responsibilities handbook.
  • Make-up examinations and exercises will only be
considered as a result of excused absences.
  • Because it is a group activity, there is no
make-up possibility for the Final Project.

13
ATTENDANCE POLICY
  • When possible, let me know in advance if you must
miss a class and we can make arrangements for
    make-ups.

14
FINAL EXAMS SCHEDULED FOR THE SAME TIME
  • A student for whom two examinations have been
scheduled for the same time shall be entitled to
have the examination for the class with the
higher catalog number rescheduled. In case both
classes have the same number, the one whose
departmental prefix is alphabetically first will
    be rescheduled.

15
FINAL EXAMS SCHEDULED FOR THE SAME TIME
  • This rescheduling must be requested of the
appropriate instructor in writing at least two
weeks prior to the scheduled examination.
