5POLITICAL HIGHLIGHTS
- The international Womens Day looks back to a
long tradition. It was product of a long fight
for equal treatment and voting rights for women.
Initiated by Clara Zetkin (1857-1933), the very
first International Womens Day took place on
March, 19th 1911. Millions of women from Denmark,
Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the USA
particpated. By choosing this date it was thought
to underscore the revolutionary caracter of the
Womens Day. For the 18 th of March was the
memorial day for the victims of the german
revolution of 1848 in Berlin. - The principal demands were formulated as
- fight against the imperialistic war (I. WW)
- full electorate rights for women
- social security regulations for the workers
- sufficient protection for women and children
- 8-hours working day
- equal salaries for equal labour
- constitution of minimum wages

7ACTUAL SOCIAL REALITY trafficking
Trafficking in human beings for the purpose of
sexual and other forms of exploitation is a
highly lucrative business, largely controlled by
powerful criminal organizations. Most vulnerable
to being trafficked are women and girls, as they
are often subject to multiple gender-based
discrimination.
Already at the Fourth World Conference on Women
in Beijing 1995 trafficking in women and girls
was a major concern.

8ACTUAL SOCIAL REALITY trafficking
sexuelle Ausbeutung.
Dream-trip to hell How to fight modern
slave-markets? It is not even clear, how many
women are offered and sold globally. The US Dpt
of Justice calculates 600.000 to 800.000 human
beings, which are commercialized internationally
each year 80 of them girls and women. In
some 70 of these cases it is a case of sexual
abuse

9ACTUAL SOCIAL REALITY trafficking
In Deutschland kamen 2003 die meisten
Zwangsprostituierten aus Russland, Rumänien und
Bulgarien, so das Bundeskriminalamt. Der
Großteil der Frauen wird durch Agenturen
angeworben, aber auch durch Freunde und entfernte
Verwandte. Im Westen ein wenig reich werden mit
babysitten oder kellnern - das ist ein
Hoffnungsschimmer für viele. Doch am Reiseziel
werden sie dann eingesperrt, vergewaltigt und
gebrochen. Knapp ein Drittel nimmt Prostitution
zwar wissentlich in Kauf, aber keine diese
Hölle.Rund vierzig Prozent der Frauen reisten
legal ein. Für die neuen EU-Mitgliedstaaten, wie
Polen, Tschechien und Lettland, besteht keine
Visa-Pflicht. Aus Rumänien und Bulgarien kommen
immer mehr Zwangsprostituierte, denn mit den
EU-Assoziationsverträgen ist die visafreie
Einreise für 90 Tage möglich.
In Germany the majority of forced prostitutes
comes from Russia, Rumania and Bulgaria. The
majority of the women is hired by specialised
agencies, by friends or relatives. Coming to earn
some money as babysitter or waitress they find
themselves easily in captivity, are violated and
abused. About 1/3 of the migrants exspect
prostitution but never the violent circumstances.
About 40 of the women enter the western
countries legally. For the new EU-member
countries, like Poland, Check Republik or Latvia
there is no visa obligation. But also from
Rumania and Bulgaria the migration of forced
prostitutes increases because through the
association status a 90 days visa is accessible

10ACTUAL SOCIAL REALITY trafficking
Tageszeitung.
Protecting victim not suspect A struggle of
certain characteristics was started by women in
Passau, southern Germany. Their weapon is their
moral. Members of the Catholic German Womens
Circles didnt want to see any longer the sex
commercials in the daily Passauer Presse.
On the first pages of this catholic paper they
deal with ethic values on the last page, human
dignity is humiliated through sex advertisement

from the worst terrorist attack in Spain

12INTERNATIONAL Context
Womens rights Human rights In many countries
girls and women are discriminated systematically
No access to education, Legally discriminated,
Genitally mutilated,put to marriage against
their will In many countries whole people are
discriminated systematically No access to
education, Legally discriminated, Ethnically
mutilated the west-european women and the
west-european peoples are incomparably much
better off than 4 ½ billion of other people on
this globe Therefore in Europe-25 we have to
concentrate much on the subject Gender but
there is also need for practised solidarity among
the peoples, where still prevails the classical
womens discrimination...

Volvo lets women do the design The car industry
identified women as target group and takes them
in account. Far in the front we find Volvo.
Volvo presented at the Car-Saloon in Geneve a
car concept that was exclusively desigend by

Leading cuestions for planning The problem that
is the starting point for formulating the working
strategy and the plan of activities affects women
and men in a different way? If so how and
why? how should be formulated the project
target on the basis of this analisis to meet best
with the own intentions and with the donors
requirements?how should be formulated the
working strategy? how should be formulated the
indicators? Which actors are capable to
implement with us the gender-sensitiv working
strategy? How could we probably improve their
and our own capacity?
