- After the first year of Intifada, the closures
imposed in the West Bank started to affect the
olive oil producers, who couldnt sell their
product anymore. - Early 2002, the Italian Cooperation acquired 20
tons of olive oil from the producers of West Bani
Zeid Municipality area, and distributed it as
part of 7.000 Food Aid parcels in Bethlehem and
Jenin districts. - Following this pilot activity, it had been
possible to convince WFP and UNRWA to include
this activity in their operations and contribute
to an extraordinary rebound of the sector. - Last month, WFP communicates that olive oil
market went back to normality - Status of implementation ongoing

children for bone marrow transplant at the IME
Center in Rome, and training activities within
Palestinian local health institutions and
centers, to enable local health staff to deal

- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs finance yearly
provides a number of scholarships for
Palestinians. These Scholarships are granted for
post-graduated studies towards masters, PhD and
other specialization courses. - Procedure As agreed with the Palestinian MOP ,
the scholarships announcements are sent to the
MOP and then forwarded to the MEHE which
disseminates them to the concerned Institutions.
In turn, our Office send the received
applications to the Italian MoFA for the
selection process. - Number of Scholarships 54 (Of the total number
of scholarships available, at the moment 13 have
been assigned for specializing courses 3 for
Masters 7 for PHD. Further selection processes
have to be held in the next months. - Problems to be solved The most obvious
difficulty with the MEHE delay in receiving the
application within the deadline. - Another problem is that some candidates give up
the scholarship, after that all complicated
procedures are completed.

JSCPD North Jerusalem and Tuscany Region an
apposite advisory board to evaluate projects in
East Jerusalem has been instituted several
Italian local authorities are getting in touch
with Palestinian local authorities to enter in
partnership some 30 Application Forms have been
submitted to the PCU for evaluation Coordination

- Up today, the Program suffers from the lack of
experts (HR) coming from Italy to support the
implementation of CB phase and from delays in

construction of community centers, cultural
centers, kinder gardens, women and child centers
and hospital rehabilitation operated by NGOs. - 3- Technical assistance to strengthen donor
coordination for the Ministry of Health-Amount
committed US 394,291. This component was
implemented by the ISS and involved the
establishment of a comprehensive data base and
archiving system to help the MOH plan future
project and record past achievements. The MOH was
also provided with furniture, electronic, medical
equipment and internet services including

- This project aims at improving and ameliorating
the living conditions of 30.000 Bedouins living
in West Bank, enabling them to manage their
resources and marketing their products (cheese
and sheep) improving the health and productivity
of their herds. - Main objectives 1- Establish a Bedouin
corporation to manage their resources mainly to
ensure a stable supply of feed at a fair price
for the herds of the Bedouins and to market the
Bedouin products mainly milk, cheese and sheep. - 2- Establish two mobile veterinary clinics
to provide services to the herds of the Bedouins. - Status of implementation This program is being
implemented by the UNDP in coordination with the
MOA. A steering committee was established to
monitor implementation. The Italian Cooperation
is represented in the Committee as observer. A
project manager was appointed by UNDP to oversee
implementation.

- The achievements as of this date include
- 1 - Establishment of the Palestinian
Bedouin Corporation, a shareholding company owned
and operated by the Bedouins. The company was
registered with the Ministry of National Economy.
It has a capital of USD 400,000, consisting of
400,000 shares at USD 1 per share. A total of 115
Bedouins have subscribed and paid up for a total
of 280,000 shares. - The company has already procured 3500 tons
of barley and sold them to the Bedouins at
competitive prices and on easy credit terms. A
revolving fund for procurement of barley was set
up. - A marketing study has been prepared to
assist the company in marketing the products of
the Bedouins. - A capacity building three day workshop for
the board of the company was held in August in
Jericho. The purpose of the workshop was to build
the capacities of the11 board members in
administration and management of their company.
Training sessions were conducted by experienced
university professors and financial experts. - 2 - Two mobile veterinary clinics were
procured and furnished with a small laboratory,
and drugs. They are operated by the veterinary
staff of the MOA and paid for by the - project. These mobile clinics visit
the sites of the Bedouin communities and provide
medical services to the herds of the Bedouins at
reasonable prices. - 3 - improved varieties of rams were
distributed to the Bedouins to increase the
productivity of milk and meat of their herds -
