8Harmonized Tariff Schedule
- The USITC (Office of Tariff Affairs and Trade
Agreements) is responsible for publishing the
Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States
Annotated (HTSA). The HTSA provides the
applicable tariff rates and statistical
categories for all merchandise imported into the
United States it is based on the international
Harmonized System, the global classification
system that is used to describe most world trade
in goods. - http//www.usitc.gov/taffairs.htm
9US Export Commodity Classification Number
(Schedule B)
There are millions of trade transactions
occurring each year. These transactions are
classified under approximately 8,000 different
products leaving the United States. Every item
that is exported is assigned a unique 10-digit
identification code. Every 10-digit item is part
of a series of progressively broader product
categories.
http//www.census.gov/foreign-trade/schedules/b/
10Whats the difference between Schedule B and
Harmonized Tariff Schedule
All of the imports and export codes used by the
United States are based on the Harmonized Tariff
System. The HTS assigns 6-digit codes for general
categories. Countries which use the HTS are
allowed to define commodities at a more detailed
level than 6-digits, but all definitions must be
within that 6-digit framework. The U.S. defines
products using 10-digit HTS codes. Exports codes
(which the U.S. calls Schedule B) are
administered by the U.S. Census Bureau. Import
codes are administered by the U.S. International
Trade Commission (USITC). http//www.census.gov/f
