Problem statement
  • The skid steer loader is a compact construction
    machine used in many applications including
    landscaping and general building. The door
    functions to protect the operator from weather as
    well as from flying objects.
  • The door must be redesigned to
  • Enhance visibility and sealing.
  • Avoid damage to door from lifting loader arms.
  • Improve the aesthetics of the door and give it
    the impression that it is an integral part of the
    machine.

Problems With Current Design
  • Low visibility due to bulky wiper mechanism and
    door handle
  • Poor sealing between door and cab
  • Potential damage to door by the lift arms

Visibility Improvements
  • Moved washer fluid reservoir inside the cab
  • Simplified and moved latch mechanism
  • Extended the bottom of the door two inches down
  • Improves visibility on both sides of the door

New Hinge Design
  • Opening cab door extends a pin over loader arm to
    prevent arms from being raised
  • Simple mechanical solution
  • Increased rigidity improves sealing

  • Stresses across hinge in response to a 250lb
    force
  • Resulting factor of safety of 10

New Door Handle
  • Eliminates unsightly linkages inside cab
  • Improves visibility at the bottom corner
  • Eliminates need for extra handle to close the
    door from inside

  • Improves visibility in particular areas by
    repositioning the wiper mechanism and door handle
  • Enables operator to remove and install the door
    quickly
  • Reduction in frame size decreases overall weight
    of the door while making it more aesthetically
    pleasing

    solid feel
